I made a comment on the FP (I know, I know) that if Infiniti really wants to take on ///M and AMG why don't they just start with the GT-R hardware and work with that. I get that it is expensive, and I get that the GT-R is not a luxury car. But isn't using what you have still cheaper than making an entire sub-brand from scratch? And what engines will they use, Mercedes? Using an AMG motor in your Inifiniti "performance brand" is not going to bring credibility. I'm not saying they should build an ///M3 fighter right away..in fact, I think they should just go big, go after the C63 AMG Black...throw down some lap-times, win some mag showdowns and tell the world you are serious. Once you have established a name then you can trickle down to smaller more volume models. Thanks for listening...rant over.

they have a whole lot of R+D invested in the GT-R program as well. If not using the same hardware, there is alot to fall back on.

It can't be just internal company politics, like GM not allowing Corvette-class engines in anything else for so long, can it? Now if there were a COPO-style loophole that allowed the VR38DETT to be ordered in another chassis, that would be awesome, but I'm afraid everything in modern automotive design and production is too tightly integrated to allow simple factory swaps.

Sure they did the Juke-R, but what do those go for, like $600k? Anyway, anyone willing/able to please fix my ignorance, have at it.

I was wondering about this as well. I mean, if a bunch of engineers can transplant GT-R parts into a Juke without the initial blessing of Nissan, imagine what they can actually do with an actual partnership with them.

The only thing I can come up with is that this is Infiniti testing the waters for a possible future partnership with another brand, just as how Toyota and Subie successfully created something by working together (although they are not really that separated as a company to begin with). Also, there are news of Toyota doing a cooperative effort with BMW .

You're right, ya know. That's what they really should do. But put that gorgeous red on everything please.

I think the problem is too much too fast.

It took 2 generations of CTS-Vs before we all said "You know what, Cadillac knows what its doing with high performance vehicles"

Infiniti just can't JUMP IN and expect to beat anyone. They need to be prepared to lose and do better the next model.

Ask Lexus how the IS-F did.

Spoiler alert: it didn't. And they gave up, and left what could've been a very viable M3/C63/RS4 alternative on the floor instead of coming back with something more competitive.
